Dear Visitors,

The Museum’s jubilee continues on a high note, after record-breaking attendance throughout our summer season of 50th-Anniversary concerts in the Art Garden, our all-night Contact Point, and our Family and Wine Festivals. And we are now looking forward to a vibrant fall season of exhibitions, special displays, and more.

Following our focus last spring on Israel’s aesthetic character in 1965 and on how that sensibility relates to creativity in Israel today, our fall, exhibitions look back to the fifty years before our founding. Anchoring this season are several exhibitions exploring the European avant-garde modernist heritage that would lay the foundations for Israel’s modern visual culture and for the creative spirit of the Museum itself. Twilight over Berlin: Masterworks from the Nationalgalerie, 1905–1945, brings to Jerusalem fifty iconic works of avant-garde and expressionist art from Germany, celebrating both our Museum’s milestone year and the 50th Anniversary of German-Israeli diplomatic ties. On view concurrently, New Types: Three Pioneers of Hebrew Graphic Design and Dürer and Friends: German Renaissance Prints explore the German antecedents of modern Israeli typographic design and graphic arts. These exhibitions are complemented by Man Ray – Human Equations, which highlights one of the great strengths of our own modernist holdings, and we the people, which reflects on our times through the Museum’s notably strong program in international contemporary art.

We also invite you to continue to enjoy the gifts of works of art from Museum friends and loans from sister institutions worldwide – among them the British Museum, the Hermitage Museum, the Louvre, the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, and the Vatican Library – on display in tribute to the Museum’s 50th Anniversary.

As our landmark year draws to a close, we are already looking toward the next fifty years, and we thank you for your part in this special story. We also look forward to welcoming you to the Museum campus in the weeks and months ahead, and we wish you and your families a healthy, happy, and peaceful seasonal greetings.

With warmest regards,

James S. Snyder
