Exhibition: Days of Innocence: Illustrator Eva Itzkowitz and the Ofer Library
Original illustrations to beloved children’s books, including Itzhak Schweiger-Dmi’el’s Hanna’s Sabbath Dress, all produced by the same anonymous artist, are on display in this exhibition, revealing the unknown illustrator’s identity for the first time. The prolific cooperation between the Ofer Library and the illustrator Eva Itzkowitz yielded dozens of books over three decades, creating a colorful world for the children of the 1950s and 1960s, fusing text and image and infusing realistic children’s literature with an idyllic atmosphere of innocence and harmony. Inscribed in readers’ hearts and minds, Itzkowitz’s powerful imagery has become truly iconic, still arousing nostalgic feelings in many.
